Colors can affect a person’s mood, set the tone for a room or home, transform a space, communicate your likes, help your health, reduce your blood pressure, signify an emotion like joy, happiness, hope, peace, and calm. Color is a wonderful tool in expressing a business’ belief system or a person’s personality. Decorating and staging with neutral colors when selling a home allows potential buyers to see their belongings in the home and can actually help a sale happen.
Color and emotions are linked together. Selecting a color says a lot about the person using it. Colors can create an environment in a room such as using a calming blue in a bedroom that will promote restful sleep versus using a more vibrant color like red.
The Pantone Color Institute, which designates itself as the “global color authority” has been choosing a color of the year since 2000. According to the color experts at Pantone, the 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue, a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk.
“It’s a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next. What’s the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours?” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
Here are some ideas of how to incorporate the 2020’s Color of the Year into your home or business:
Bring Tranquility to Your Favorite Space
Look around your home or business and think of where you could incorporate a classic blue color into the space.
Think of the gathering space in your home. Is it your Family Room or Kitchen? It should be tranquil, calm, inviting, and where everyone wants to be. Select an accent wall to paint. Then pair this pretty hue with another fun lively color. Change up a couch or bar stools with one of the new colors in the palette. The results of these dynamic shades are bold, vibrant, and far from basic.
Accessories
Not ready to commit completely to one blue color? Just dip your toes in with this calming color by switching up your pillows, or some new accessories or adding a blanket or throw. You could even paint the inside of a chest, pantry, or cabinet. You don’t have to go big to get the look.
Kitchen / Dining Room
A simple way to getting started using this calm new color palette is to use it on a table in your dining room or kitchen. Bring in beautiful placements, napkins, centerpiece, runners and/or glassware to set your colorful table.
Polish a Room
Pick a main item in a room such as a rug with the new colors and watch the transformation begin to change the space immediately.
